It's Just Another Day!
It’s just another day at home, nothing special.
There are endless chores to be done, laundry to wash, dishes to clean, floors to vacuum, furniture to dust. It’s just another day.
I shuffle about from here to there, trying to accomplish a few things. My to-do list never getting smaller because I can’t seem to complete anything. It’s not the lack of motivation, but instead being overzealous in my many tasks and fluttering from one to the next before finishing what I had already started.
I finally got it together and started getting things done. After a while, I headed out back for some fresh air.
From my place on the back porch, I could see the mother hen out in the run with her two little chicks. The rest of the flock were keeping their distance. Since it’s just another day, I decided to walk back to the chicken coop and see how the babies were doing.
Have you ever had the opportunity to observe a hen with her chicks? The communication, care, concern, love, and affection is admirable!
Little chicks watch mamma hen to see what she does, and then they mimic her. Today was no exception. They were learning how to eat watermelon. The chicks watched as mamma pecked at the watermelon rind, then they tried. Since they are so small, they were having a difficult time. Finally, they climbed into the watermelon rind and pecked away.
I stood for quite a while watching these little chicks discovering their world. I was taken by the simple perfection before me. For the first time today, I was truly in the moment.
If we take just a moment to look around, we may be surprised at the beauty, wonder, and amazement that awaits us every day. Don’t look in the distance for something great. It may be nearer than you could ever imagine.
